Our Story
Max Dethlefs, Founder of Biosquareyard, with his dog Emmi. Born in Germany, Max lived in Israel for some years before moving to Wayne/PA in 2016. He is a senior at Shipley School.
The idea of biosquareyard came to me when I started to get involved in the landscaping/gardening business that my friend had started the previous year. While working on and interacting with various customers, I was surprised by the environmental consequences that the lawns of our customers brought hereby. Not only did they require large amounts of chemicals and water to maintain - with the gases of the lawn mowers seeping through the entire garden - they also did not provide a diverse habitat to insects or birds.
Unlike in Germany, where I was born, my customers seemed to value the aesthetics of their their garden over the environmental benefits it could provide to the natural wildlife.
Thus, the idea of a project was born, through which people would learn about the importance of biodiversity, environmental conservation and would be able to put this into action free of charge. Since then, through our website, I have distributed hundreds of packets of seeds and have been able to help people change the way they view gardening and biodiversity. Nevertheless, the journey continues, and if you would like to join the cause, feel free to send in feedback and order your free packet of seeds today.
